Meet the newest team member TRIX!  It is my hope that Trix will become part of a performing team of Nike & Trix.  Trix was easy for me to pick.  He has a swoosh of white fur in front of his left rear leg just like Nike does.  The pattern of black and white on their face is a very close match.  (Trix doesn't have tan markings of course) They both have a white front and a black saddle.  And of course they both have pointy ears - they are a cute pair!  (Sorry cat people, I know the dog got top billing, but she did insist it was in her contract.)

I was worried that Nike might not understand that "Cats can be our friends", but so far, so good. Poor Trix currently runs around with a permanent spike hairdo from Nike licking him!.  Stay tuned as Trix begins his training to be my demo cat.

8-29-04 - Trix had his first outing.  He went to a local Pet Store and followed Nike around.  It was a show stopper to see this little kitty walking on leash following his Border Collie around the store!

The biggest problem I am having right now is finding a harness small enough.  I finally used a harness that I had bought for "da bird".  It worked pretty well. Although it was a little large!

UPDATE on Trix - Trix is a cool cat and we enjoy him very much however, he has never stopped being a "scaredy cat" when going out in public.  HE HATES going away from his home and is very uncomfortable going on "trips".  Therefore my plans for a training team of dog and cat are on the back burner for now since I won't ask or expect the cat to do anything that causes him that much discomfort.

Trix has turned into a really interesting pet cat.  He is affectionate.  Because we have a dog door there is no way to confine the cat.  I don't recommend letting cats go outdoors when it can be prevented.  But, Trix being a scaredy cat and the fact that he is neutered have combined to keep him as close to home as I suspect is possible for a cat given freedom to go out doors.  For a while other cats were chasing him out of his own back yard and into the house.  He has gotten tough enough to keep his own yard - his, and he now gets to be in his own front yard also!  He has a few scars on his nose and ears to tell of his backyard battles.

But believe it or not, Trix actually spends most of his evenings in the house and has adopted (as much as his cat genes can tolerate) a daytime schedule.  He does after all think he is a dog!  There is one issue I have with Trix.  We got him because we have a mouse issue.  So far, he has only eliminated 1 itty bitty baby mouse, however, he has become quite an efficient bird killer (he actually eats the birds!!!).  I no longer feed the birds because I don't want to lure them to their death.  This may be a cat thing but I am not liking it at all.
